As the owner of Reagan Wireless, Daniel Kaufman has helped diversify the company’s workplace. Currently, more than 90 percent of its employee base and management are of minority ethnicities, a fact that the technology and recycling company are proud of. Not only do minority staffed businesses have an advantage over others, the United States government often offers tax breaks and other incentives to these companies.
Minority staffed businesses include gender, ethnicity, and even veterans. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, or the SBA, these businesses are ones that incorporate learning, training, and management programs to help minorities succeed as professionals. These groups are usually economically or socially disadvantaged, and can also include Hispanic Americans, Subcontinent Asian Americans, Native Americans, or others that have a documented history of business hardship.
The SBA actively supports these firms with 8(a) certification. It provides company development assistance programs, helps institute mentor programs, and assists businesses with perfecting backend and day-to-day operations. SBA certification, however, is not what all businesses shoot for.
