You Can Text 911 In an Emergency Starting Today

It's OFFICIAL, You can now text 911 for emergencies:

Announced by the FCC in 2012, the service goes live today for AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Using it is very straightforward. If you have an emergency, you simply text 911 with your emergency and your location, as you would if you were speaking to an operator. You have to state your physical address because, unlike with a voice call, call centers can't triangulate your location.

Samsung says 11 million Galaxy S5 smartphones sold since launch

iPhone 6: Every rumor about the specs, release date, and size of Apple's next smartphone

What we think we know

This early in 2014, we don't know much about what Apple has up its sleeves for the next iPhone. That said, some trends are already popping up in the rumors. Analysts and sources claim that Apple will give us two phones this year, just like it did in September 2013 with the 5S and 5C.

There will be a large iPhone model, likely with a 5-inch or larger screen, and also a smaller, possibly lower-end, device closer in size to the iPhone 5S.

Upcoming support for Text to 911 by wireless carriers starting May 15

Here is a great read about the upcoming support for Text to 911 by wireless carriers starting May 15.

Beginning May 15, wireless carriers in the US will uniformly and voluntarily support Text-to-911, a program that lets you send text messages to emergency services as an alternative to placing a phone call.

While carriers will climb on board, this just means they're making the service available -- the ability to text the police in an emergency situation won't work everywhere in the country the second May 15 rolls around. On the flipside, some counties have already embraced the program, usually working with a single carrier. Here are some important things to know about texting 911...

Samsung Galaxy S5 is almost here!

The long wait for Samsung Galaxy S5 is finally over: Samsung has finally taken the wraps off its flagship mobile device. It was announced this Monday (February 24th) at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in Spain.

There weren’t practically changes in the design.
The company said it had "decided to go back to basics". They kept the same formula as the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy S4 but with a few cosmetic changes. Metal body design? Nope. The device now has a pebbled silver back that looks like it's metal but is actually polycarbonate. Samsung calls it "perforated" and also a "modern glam look." It still has the home button but has been designed to maximize screen real state to show off Samsung’s display technology.

The New Surprises

The Galaxy S5 features a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 3GB of RAM, a 2,800 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat. Other key features of the Galaxy S5 is a fingerprint scanner (similar to the one Apple uses in the iPhone 5s) and water-resistant.

The Latest Apple iPhone 6 Rumors, by Daniel Kaufman Reagan Wireless

The Latest Apple iPhone 6 Rumors
by Daniel Kaufman
Reagan Wireless The Latest Apple iPhone 6 Rumors by Daniel Kaufman Reagan Wireless

Rumor #1 – New Size

According to various sources in September Apple will be releasing their iPhone 6 in two new sizes, 4.7 and 5.5 inches with a pixel density of 441 per inch. That’s a big step from previous iPhone displays, which have 326 pixels per inch.

Rumor #2 – No Curved Screen

Rumors about the next having the new curved display seem to false according to the latest chatter. Looks like Apple has decided to keep the flat display but what will be new is that the displays will be completely manufactured from scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass. The material is almost unbreakable and second only to diamond in hardness but it could shoot up the cost of production. Reports have emerged that the use of sapphire crystal glass in the device could increase its cost of production, affecting its price.

Rumor #3 – Finger Print Scanner Moved

Another rumor is that Apple is going to move the touch ID finger print scanner onto the actual display itself.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Review By Daniel Kaufman Reagan Wireless

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Review
 By Daniel Kaufman
Reagan Wireless  daniel-kaufman-reagan-wireless-galaxynote3
Many companies have tried to make a large, note-friendly smartphone, but none have succeeded quite as well as Samsung with the Galaxy Note 3. The Note 3 is huge. The screen measures 5.7 inches with a 1920x1080 Super AMOLED (388 ppi) display, it’s bright, sharp and vivid. It is also super fast with a quad-core 1.3 GHz  processor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and 3GB of RAM.

The 13MP sensor on the Note 3 is decent enough; managing good shots in average light and excellent ones in brighter lighting conditions. There’s also a video camera that shoots in 4K resolution.

The Note has the first USB 3.0-compliant socket we’ve seen on a phone. This hugely increases the rate at which the phone can leech data from a computer (when using a USB 3.0 port), and will increase the rate of recharging when doing so over USB (again when using a 3.0 port).

One thing everyone likes about this phone is the stylus pen built into the body, called the S Pen. When you pull it from its snug holster the Note 3 recognizes you’ve done this and launches a special menu called Air Command. The options in the menu include Action Memo.

What’s next for the Samsung Galaxy S5? Rumors By Daniel Kaufman, Reagan Wireless

What’s next for the Samsung Galaxy S5? Rumors

By Daniel Kaufman

Reagan Wireless

Now that 2014 is here, it looks like it's time to start thinking about the next-gen smartphones this year is bound to bring us. Well, if there's anything I am certain about, that's the fact that in just a few days (February 24), Samsung Galaxy S5 will be unveiled in a press conference called “Unpacked 5”.
daniel-kaufman-reagan-wireless-galaxys5-rumors-conceptThere are lots of rumors out there about the new S5. Everyone is hoping for the best to come for this device. Surpassing the LG Flex with its curved screen, and improving its look  by going metal like the HTC ONE and iPhone  5S.

In January, it was rumoured that the Galaxy S5 could feature a brand new UI, a 2014 edition of the Samsung TouchWiz UX that sports a whole new redesign. This could also run on a 5.25-inch QHD 2K resolution display. The QHD panel would offer a stunning resolution of 2560 x 1440p with a 560ppi image density.

Other speculations say that Samsung will be launching the S5 with a 64-bit processor and a whacking 8GB of RAM. The South Korean electronics giant announced the 8 GB chip at the end of 2013. The chip should use around 40 percent less battery power and help power higher resolution displays.

What is CDMA Technology?

reagan-wireless-daniel-kaufman-cdma
CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is a digital cellular technology that uses “spread-spectrum” techniques whereby electromagnetic energy is spread to allow for a signal with a wider bandwidth. This allows multiple people on multiple cell phones to be “multiplexed” over the same channel to share a bandwidth of frequencies. Unlike competing systems, such as GSM, that use TDMA, CDMA does not assign a specific frequency to each user.

With CDMA technology, data and voice packets are separated using codes and then transmitted using a wide frequency range, allowing more subscribers to connect at any given time. Since more space is often allocated for data with CDMA, this standard became attractive for 3G high-speed mobile Internet use. CDMA is also compatible with other cellular technologies; this allows for nationwide roaming.

The original CDMA standard, also known as CDMA One, offers a transmission speed of only up to 14.4 Kbps in its single channel form and up to 115 Kbps in an eight-channel form. CDMA2000 and Wideband CDMA deliver data many times faster.

A little bit of History
CDMA (originally known as IS-95) is a military technology first used during World War II by English allies to foil German attempts at jamming transmissions. The allies decided to transmit over several frequencies, instead of one, making it difficult for the Germans to pick up the complete signal. Because Qualcomm created communications chips for CDMA technology, it was privy to the classified information. Once the information became public, Qualcomm claimed patents on the technology and became the first to commercialize it in the U.S.

Now a days Sprint, Virgin Mobile and Verizon Wireless use CDMA while T-Mobile and AT&T use GSM.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Review By Daniel Kaufman, Reagan Wireless

Samsung Galaxy S4 Review

By Daniel Kaufman

Reagan Wireless
daniel-kaufman-reagan-wireless-galaxy-s4

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones ever, and with a glut of high-end features, it's one of the most powerful and desirable devices that Samsung has created.

The Galaxy S4 comes in at 5.38 x 2.75 x 0.31 inches, meaning there's no extra heft to try and work with in your palm. However, the screen on the S4 has been increased to a whopping 5-inch display with Full HD resolution.

On top of that, there's 1.9GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Processor packed under the hood, ample storage space for media thanks to an expandable memory card slot, and the likes of 4G LTE and Bluetooth 4.0.

What impresses me the most is its 13 Megapixel camera. Images are very sharp and there's a surprising amount of depth of field. Colors are rich, though they border on over-saturation, and video quality is excellent.

LG Optimus VM670 Review By Daniel Kaufman, Reagan Wireless

LG Optimus V (VM670) Review
By Daniel Kaufman
Reagan Wireless
daniel-kaufman-reagan-wireless-lg-vm670-2
The LG Optimus V (VM670) is quite slim, just like the other optimus phones, at only 0.52 inch thick, so it's very pocket-friendly. It has a nice soft-touch finish all around, and the 3.2-inch touch-screen interface is just as colorful and intuitive.

The 600 MHz Qualcomm processor of the Optimus V, managed to keep up with most everyday tasks and allowed me to smoothly run several applications at once, something I can't say about other mid-range smartphones that I've tested.

In terms of usability, the small-ish display should be fine for most tasks, but it may cause problems when using the virtual keyboard. For this reason, it's nice that the phone also comes with Swype out of the box.

Features:
  • Android 2.2 OS
  • Large 3.2 Touch sensitive screen
  • 320 x 480 pixels Display Resolution
  • Virtual Qwerty with Swype
  • Voice dialing
  • 3.2MP Camera & Camcorder with auto focus & 4 Digital Zoom
  • QUALCOMM MSM7627 Processor
  • MicroSDHC slot up to 32 GB
  • Stereo Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, Wi-Fi, and GPS
  • 1500 mAh battery
  • Talk Time up to 360 min,
  • Standby Time up to 168 hour(s)
“I've been consistently impressed by the performance of the Optimus V and would definitely recommend it for anyone who is looking for an affordable smartphone option.” –Daniel Kaufman, Reagan Wireless

LG LS 696 Elite Review By Daniel Kaufman, Reagan Wireless

LG LS 696 Elite Review
By Daniel Kaufman
Reagan Wireless

daniel-kaufman-reagan-wireless-ls696

In the realm of low-cost smartphones, there's usually not a whole lot that entices customers aside from the prices. The LG Optimus Elite has some pretty neat features like NFC and Google Wallet support and it's eco-friendly. The eco-friendly part may not attract everyone, but NFC and Google Wallet might. If that doesn't do the trick, just look at the price tag again.

The Optimus Elite has an 800 MHz processor and 512 MB of RAM. That's enough power to get you through simple, everyday tasks and some multi-tasking without any performance issues.
I've been very impressed by the Optimus Elite's camera. Honestly, the camera on a low-end phone is not something you pay too much attention to because the quality is usually terrible. However, the Optimus Elite's 5-megapixel camera did a great job. Pictures came out great with good detail for a phone of this caliber. It also captures WVGA video and has a flash and a self-portrait mirror.

Features:
  • Android OS, v2.3.7 (Gingerbread)
  • 1 GB storage of internal memory
  • Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon chipset
  • 800 MHz processor
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • 2G/3G Network
  • TFT capacitive touchscreen
  • 320 x 480 pixels display
  • MicroSD slot, up to 32 GB
“Although now we have so many impressive, yet expensive smartphones, the LG Elite is a good phone that can offer you the basic android features at a very low price” – Daniel Kaufman Reagan Wireless

HTC EVO 4G Review By Daniel Kaufman, Reagan Wireless

HTC EVO 4G Review
By Daniel Kaufman
Reagan Wireless
daniel-kaufman-reagan-wireless-htc-evo-4g

The HTC EVO 4G is the 1st WiMax-enabled phone available to U.S. consumers. The overall design is quite sleek and modern. The "buttons" under the display are touch sensitive, so the front of the device is unbroken. It is black, with a few silver elements on the speaker grille and branding logos, plus red accents around the camera lens and kickstand on the back of the device.

The 4.3-inch WVGA touchscreen on the EVO 4G is absolutely gorgeous. Colors are rich and vibrant, and everything just looks good, whether you're doing text-heavy tasks like checking your email and surfing the Web or looking at photos and watching videos. This isn't an AMOLED display, but the EVO 4G doesn't really seem to need it.

Features:
  • Android OS 2.1
  • GPS receiver
  • 4.7-inch 1280x720 HD with IPS technology
  • 1 GHz QUALCOMM Snapdragon  processor
  • 8 megapixel camera with auto focus
  • 1.3 megapixel forward-facing secondary camera
  • 3G/4G mobile hotspot capability
  • MicroSDHC expandable up to 32 GB
  • Bluetooth 4.0
“ The HTC Evo 4G is easily one of today's top Android devices. “ –Daniel Kaufman, Reagan Wireless.

Bluetooth Motorola Finiti Review By Daniel Kaufman, Reagan Wireless

Bluetooth Motorola Finiti Review
By Daniel Kaufman
Reagan Wireless
daniel-kaufman-reagan-wireless-motorola-finitiMotorola is one of those electronics companies that seem to have their fingers in every aspect of the industry. The Motorola Finiti is the follow-on to the HX1 Endeavor, which uses the same "stealth" bone conduction technology to achieve the highest possible sound quality.
The Finiti is designed to catch your eye with its shiny chrome finish. Yet it still looks like a traditional Bluetooth headsetThe measurements are 2.13 inches long by 0.73 inch wide by 0.43 inch thick. The sides are covered in a soft rubber material and the overall headset is slightly curved for improved comfort.

Features:
  • Voice Commands
  • Built-in 3 microphones
  • Stealth mode
  • Advanced MultiPoint Technology
  • CrystalTalk technology
  • EasyPair technology
  • Echo cancellation
  • Voice caller ID
  • Motospeak application support
In conclusion, as I mentioned above the Finiti has a slew of features that are welcome on higher-end headsets. It has A2DP streaming so you can listen to your music and turn-by-turn navigation directions, multipoint, which lets you connect the headset to two devices simultaneously, and the usual features like last-number redial, call waiting, and voice command support. It also supports voice control, so you can say "answer" to answer a call and "ignore" to ignore one. –Daniel Kaufman, Reagan Wireless
