Samsung explores iris detection tech for future mobile devices

Samsung is researching ways to integrate advanced biometric technology within our future smartphones and tablets.

The South Korean firm is exploring various new authentication methods for mobile devices, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. Samsung senior VP Rhee In-jong, chief of the Knox division, told investors at a forum in Hong Kong:

You Can Text 911 In an Emergency Starting Today

It's OFFICIAL, You can now text 911 for emergencies:

Announced by the FCC in 2012, the service goes live today for AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Using it is very straightforward. If you have an emergency, you simply text 911 with your emergency and your location, as you would if you were speaking to an operator. You have to state your physical address because, unlike with a voice call, call centers can't triangulate your location.

Samsung says 11 million Galaxy S5 smartphones sold since launch

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 sales figures appears to be very strong since it’s launch:

“Samsung says that since the Galaxy S5's launch, the flagship smartphone has outstripped the S4's sales figures by one million units in the first month.

The South Korean firm reports that during its debut month, the Galaxy S5 handset has outperformed its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 smartphone. During the first month, over 11 million S5 smartphones were sold, while the S4 secured roughly 10 million sales.

What we think we know

This early in 2014, we don't know much about what Apple has up its sleeves for the next iPhone. That said, some trends are already popping up in the rumors. Analysts and sources claim that Apple will give us two phones this year, just like it did in September 2013 with the 5S and 5C.

There will be a large iPhone model, likely with a 5-inch or larger screen, and also a smaller, possibly lower-end, device closer in size to the iPhone 5S.
